Jesus told his disciples that nothing would be impossible to them if they had faith as a grain of mustard seed. He said they could even speak to the actual mountain they were standing on and command it to be removed and it would be. That was a literal promise about a literal mountain. But faith as a grain of mustard seed is something different than just a little faith because Jesus repeatedly rebuked the disciples for having little faith. He made it clear that little faith would never produce the results that he expected of them.

The first step to growing in faith is to decide that you want to live by faith, that it is a worthwhile endeavor. Then you can grow in faith by exercising and practicing it. Just like a baby has to learn to walk through practice, we have to learn to walk in every aspect of our spiritual life and relationship with God through practice.

The purpose for having radical faith is to obtain radical results because we have radical promises from God. The Christian life described in the Bible is supposed to be a radical, supernatural life. And God has given each of us the privilege and responsibility to decide how radical and supernatural it will be based on the faith that we choose to exercise.

We are here on earth to walk in the victory of Jesus Christ and all that was accomplished for us through the cross. We can only do that by faith. God’s provision for us is far beyond anything we have seen or heard or imagined. It can only be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit through the word of God and faith.

God’s kingdom is a faith kingdom. Everything in his kingdom works by faith. God has always required faith. There is no other option. There is no other victory. The power of God flows through a faith connection. That means it flows when you believe what God’s word declares. And it doesn’t flow when you are governed by the natural realm and what you perceive with the senses.

Jesus made it clear in his parables that he has given us a job to do while he is gone and the authority to get it done and that he will hold us accountable and reward us accordingly when he returns. He was very strong in exhorting us to be watching and ready for the day he returns. If we put the knowledge, faith and authority he has given us to use it will increase. When you receive a miracle by faith it expands your capacity to receive more. Victory and success in Christ lead to more victory and success. Life in Christ goes from glory to glory and God has not put a limit on it.

Walking in faith and walking in authority are virtually the same. You can only walk in authority by faith and when you possess what belongs to you in Christ by faith you are exercising your authority. Without faith it is impossible to please God and it pleases him when we possess what belongs to us in Christ and walk in his victory and his authority. We cannot do this by the flesh. We can only do it through the power of the Holy Spirit.

In the parable of the talents each servant was responsible to take the initiative in deciding what they would do with what they had been given. It was up to them to decide how diligent and productive they would be while their master was gone. It was an opportunity to prove themselves and be rewarded by their master when he returned. It would be their master’s joy to reward them and it would be their joy to receive it. That is how it will be when Jesus returns. It will be his joy to reward us with authority in his kingdom but it will depend on what we do with the authority he has given us now.

We are joined to Christ, one spirit with him, joint heirs with him of all authority in heaven and in earth. We are to use it exactly as he would if he were physically here on earth. We are spiritual beings in a spiritual world and our authority begins in that realm. It is the will of God for his kingdom to come and his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. When Jesus returns he wants to find us exercising his authority to that end.

The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 is very similar to the parable of the pounds in Luke 19. Jesus told it to describe his departure, his return and our responsibility while he is away. After his resurrection Jesus told his disciples that all authority in heaven and earth had been given to him and then he sent them out in his name to proclaim his kingdom. That was the beginning of fulfilling what he had revealed in the parables of the pounds and the talents. Those parables are a description of what we are supposed to be doing now. We are operating here with his authority until he physically returns.

In the parable of the pounds in Luke 19, the nobleman took the pound away from the servant who had not put it to use and gave it to the one who had used his pound most productively. That is how things work in the kingdom of God. If you are not faithful and diligent to use what you have been given you will lose it. That applies to both the present and future. We will be judged and rewarded for how we have used the authority we have in Christ.

The parable of the pounds in Luke 19 teaches us that Jesus is going to reward us when he returns. The reward will be authority in his kingdom and it will be in proportion to how we have used the authority he has given us now. Everyone will not have the same reward. Those who do nothing with their authority will receive nothing. What they could have had will be given to those who have used it most effectively in this present age.

Jesus told several parables which relate to the authority he has given us. In Luke 19 we have the parable of the pounds or the minas. His followers thought he was immediately going to establish his kingdom in Jerusalem so he told this parable. It describes his departure for a long period of time, his grant of authority to his servants while he is gone and then his return, at which he will judge and reward them for how they used the authority he gave them.

Jesus hid the mysteries of the kingdom of God in parables. Then he constantly told his listeners to hearken, pay attention, to his words. Throughout the Bible God repeatedly told men to hear his words and to seek him. His wisdom is hidden for us but only revealed to those who will seek it and value it. The measure of thought and study you give to God’s word determines what you will get out of it.

Faith and authority cannot be separated. We will be rewarded for what we have done with them and how we have grown in our capacity to walk in them. God provided everything we need through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and he wants us to possess it by faith. Carnal religious thinking wants to live as naturally as possible and only look to God for supernatural assistance as a last resort. God intends for us to maximize his supernatural empowerment in our lives.

God has given us the right and the responsibility to decide if we will possess what belongs to us or not. It is our responsibility to decide how things will be.
